5 Ways to Achieve Natural-Looking BOTOX® Results

One of the biggest myths about BOTOX®, which many San Francisco-area patients choose to correct facial wrinkles, is that is it will make a person’s face seem overdone or robotic. Of course, when you have any cosmetic treatment done, the goal is to alter your appearance in some way—but most patients prefer this alteration to look natural, not to appear overly extreme. Working with an experienced provider who has an artistic eye and deep knowledge of facial anatomy is critical to avoiding that undesirable “frozen” look.

Here are five steps The Jacobs Center for Cosmetic Surgery team recommends when it comes to getting BOTOX® results that looks normal and natural, so that others won’t be able to tell you’ve had “tweaks” done.

1.    Find a Great Injector

BOTOX® is performed at medical practices—and other establishments—throughout the country. Because the injectable is so widely available, you’d be wise not to go with just any spa or salon that advertises the neuromodulator among its services. Remember that while BOTOX® is a less invasive rejuvenation option than surgery, it is still a medical treatment, so the best way to reduce the risks of complications is by choosing a certified professional. Poor BOTOX® results can often be attributed to unskilled injectors who use an inappropriate amount of product in a wrong location. Choose a board-certified physician who has years of experience in cosmetic treatments and is trained specifically in injecting BOTOX® correctly.

2.    Consider the Face as a Whole

Each person’s facial structure is unique. When you have BOTOX® injections, your injector shouldn’t focus on minimizing only individual wrinkles, but must also think of the impact the neuromodulator will have on the entire face. Though injections are typically focused on the forehead and around the eyes, preparation includes examining the middle and lower parts of the face as well so that the two halves match in terms of signs of aging. To do this, patients need to be examined properly on an individual basis during their consultation.

3.  Take a “Less Is More” Approach

Since BOTOX® injections can’t be undone and results last for months, well-practiced providers typically use a small amount at a time to create a more balanced, natural look. Preventative BOTOX® for people in their 20s and 30s as a form of “prejuvenation” (prevention and rejuvenation) is highly popular these days, but anyone considering this is advised to wait until at least some lines have begun to appear. At this point, small doses of BOTOX® can help them to avoid looking emotionless or older than they really are. Many people have injections of BOTOX® throughout their lifetime, but overuse of an excessive amount over time also isn’t advisable.

4.  Avoid DIY Kits

While some at-home beauty treatment kits can be worth the investment, BOTOX® is not something to DIY. If you want good, safe injections, always go to a professional at an accredited facility. The use of DIY kits for BOTOX® and other injectables is on the rise as more people are purchasing cheap deals online, but it goes without saying that this is a highly dangerous practice. BOTOX® is a muscle paralyzing drug and should not be used by unskilled injectors who won’t have the medical knowledge to deal with any medical complications that may arise. DIY products may also contain expired or unknown substances. In a worst-case scenario, you can do serious harm to yourself.

5.  Upgrade Your Skin Care Habits

If your overall skin tone and texture aren’t looking so great, your BOTOX® results won’t look as good as they could. Relaxing key muscles to soften wrinkles won’t fix dull, drab, or dry skin. This means that you should do all of the standard options to keep your skin healthy, including drinking water, cleansing, moisturizing, exfoliating, and eating a balanced diet. Also, cut down on sun exposure, smoking, and drinking alcohol.
